Stearine (Stearic Acid)
This is added to paraffin wax to increase its shrinking qualities, so that when it is set the wax can be more easily removed from a mould. Stearin adds hardness to candles which makes them burn slightly longer. Stearin also helps to prevent candles from dripping. It is added to the wax in the proportion 1 part stearin:10 parts wax. If you add too much Stearin, it will give the candle a soap-like finish. Always melt the Stearin first, then add the dye if making coloured candle and then paraffin wax. Stearin is available in the following sizes 250 gram, 500 gram, 1 Kilogram and 25 Kilograms.
